Florida Vacation

Vacation, vacation...where to begin?  We left last Friday and headed down to Cape Canaveral.  We had a great time being together as a family.  We spent most of our time at the beach.  On most days our schedule was beach, showers, lunch, "rest" time, dinner, outing/beach evening walk with pictures.  Boogie boarding was a big hit this trip, where as two years ago it was sand castle building.  Josiah loved being in the water, and really seemed to get the hang of boogie boarding.  Aedan stayed in shallower water with his board, and even stood on it often, pretending to surf.  The water was chilly at the beginning of the week, and seemed to warm up throughout the week, as did the weather...so maybe it was just the warmer weather and fewer clouds.  There wasn't much surf early on...we were able to see fish in the water...one time a really big one~ seriously, like 4-5 ft long!  Also, we saw a small group of rays twice.  Josiah spotted one group and darted out of the water!  We saw a little turtle on our way to the beach one morning, sand crabs, and the beloved love bugs!  (We are now love bug experts!)  One of the mornings was spent at the Brevard Zoo, and a late afternoon at the beach.  Josiah asked me to take pictures of all the animals, so I did...we may make a zoo scrapbook soon!  The giraffes are always a highlight, and also the jaguars and alligators, of course!  Our evening activities included a dinner at Grills, a dunkin donuts run, a Walmart run, a Ron Jon surf shop run, a Dinosaur store run, and a sweet time with the FL O'Briens~Bim, Donna, Kim, and Chris.  (Craig was still in Spain.)  Oh, and speaking of Bim...I can't forget the Shuttle Launch!  The shuttle went up Monday morning.  We took the boys out onto the beach, with the crowds of people and crowds of lovebugs, too...the more the merrier.  I am so glad the boys got to see it!  I can't believe that it was delayed all the way from April 29th to our vacation time.

Other highlights from our vacation~

~Praise the Lord that no one got strep throat from me!  I came down with it late Tuesday night before vacation.  I went to the doctor on Wednesday and started antibiotics.  I felt (almost) normal by Friday, but was a little fearful that one of the kids (especially Mercy who always wants to be held) would get it.

~Josiah tried scallops, shrimp, and mahi mahi...and liked all of them!!!!  Aedan and Mercy liked clam chowder, and scallops! I am assuming our children do not have shell fish allergies.

~Josiah and Aedan learned to pee in the ocean.  (This is very important since Aedan drinks a lot, and therefore pees a lot.)

~Aedan discovered that he likes Nutterbutters.

~Josiah wowed the man at the Dinosaur Store with his dinosaur knowledge.

~Mercy surprisingly kept her sun hat on with no problem.

~The boys are getting used to family pictures.  Mercy still needs some work.

~The boys slept in a "big" bed together successfully for the first time.

~Love bugs like our van, and us!

~I love my Ron Jon shirt that I got...if you live in Cookeville, you'll probably see me wearing it often...it is super comfy.

~Aedan (hopefully) learned not to jump in a pool without his floaties.

~Mercy is fearless in the water.

pray for Matt

Please pray for our friends, Matt and Cindy Keese.  (We knew Matt while at Clemson.  He and Ryan were good friends~in Bible Study together.  Matt also spent time on STINT in Slovakia, and was there when we were in the summer of 2001.)  We found out while we were on vacation that Matt has brain cancer.  The tumor is very deep(on the left side), so it is inoperable.  I think he will start radiation and chemo soon, but it is all very new right now, so decisions are still being made.  Click HERE to go to their caringbridge website.

Southwest fans...

the airline with the BEST pilots!

2 special days in 1

Today we celebrated Mother's Day and Ryan's birthday!  Two great days in one!!!  We went to church this morning, and Ryan went out to get us food for lunch.  Ryan opened his presents and then we had cake and ice cream.  We hung around the house this afternoon, and then headed out to the park this evening.  It was pretty crowded (even the kids couldn't believe all the cars that were there.  There was barely a place to park.), so after our walk we went up to the church to play on the playground.  It was fun...we came home, fed the kids, and put them in bed!
Happy Mother's Day!!
I love my kids!

give me a sparkler!

Mercy's 4th of July dress!

a little friend

The boys found a frog in the yard a couple days ago.  They were very excited and enjoyed watching him.  I hope they didn't torment him too much.

I love CBS!

Our CBS (Community Bible Study) year has ended:(  Yes, it is over, and I am sad!  But, I do have a greater understanding of the book of Acts and ways in which it applies to my life.  I had a blast each week with the ladies in my group~see picture below.  I was in the "new moms" group, which meant that we all had nursing babies in the class with us.  (Most of us have more then one child.)  By the end of the year, it was a little hectic with all of our mobile children....but fun!  Next year, Mercy will be in her own class, so she won't come with me.  Also, I'll be in a completely different group as we will all be shuffled around into various groups (which will also be shuffled).  I love CBS and the sanity that it provides me, the accountability of being in the Word, and the Christ-centered children's program (that the kids adore).

Here is our "new moms" group.

Josiah and his teacher, Mrs. Barbara.  Josiah LOVED his teacher.  He liked her so much that he invited her to go to the beach with us!  He kept saying, "Mommy, she can sit next to Mercy Cate."

Here is Aedan with his teacher, Mrs. Michelle.  Aedan also LOVED his teacher.  She was so sweet to him!

Below are a couple of short videos of the kids:
